Eric Herdman is the owner of Red Rock Running Company. Eric has been a runner for 35 years. He has worked in running shops and learned how to fit running shoes during High School and College. He is a member of the Footwear Biomechanics Group/International Society of Biomechanics. Before opening the store, he was a professional Speaker and Author. Eric’s is currently experimenting in the kitchen and working on a series of recipes for endurance athletes that are designed to help the athletes recover faster and stay healthy.
As an athlete (He still competes and is competitive in all ultras he enters) has completed 133 Triathlons and Duathlons, 9 marathons and 33 ultra-marathons and has completed open water swim races, double centuries as well as many mass start bike races and hill climbs. He was the winner of the 2006 Cornbelt 24 hour track race in Iowa. He is the current course record holder on the Lake Merritt Half Day race in Oakland, California and the Flatlanders 12 hour race in St. Louis. Eric has also ran 124.85 miles in 24 hours on a TREADMILL!!! Also, in 2008 Eric won the Ruth Anderson 50 miler in San Francisco - one of the longest running ultra races in the US. He recently won the Lovell Canyon Labor of love 50 mile ultra.
In addition to his own athletic endeavors he has coached or been an assistance coach or advisor to the Red Rock Running Companies Marathon training program, which he created 5 years ago. This program has let many first time marathoners finish the race as well as more advanced runners get a PR they have been after and would not have achieved without Eric’s help. He also created a Couch to 5K program in June of 2006 for the Red Rock Running Company that had wide spread success. That included two people losing over 50 pounds, eight people finishing a 5k (yes, they were completely sedentary) and two people setting personal bests in the 5k using the program Eric designed.
Eric’s expertise is in the exercise programming but not just the “do this and then do more of this” but how to create a well-rounded injury resistant outcome producing racing fitness machine. He does this through the sport specific training (running, biking, swimming) but he also uses resistance training, diet, and recovery methods that help with the daily wear on our bodies. This is the “magic” of Eric’s programs and coaching.
